History of the School
In 1924, Purbrook Park County High School opened in the manor house of the Purbrook Park Estate, which had been sold off 5 years earlier by the Deverell family.
When Purbrook Park County High School opened in September 1924. Workers were still building the classrooms and making alterations, turning it from a house into a school. Pupil numbers by this time had reached 78.
The location of the school has remained to this day, but the name has changed in 1960 to Purbrook Park County Grammar School and again in 1974 to simply Purbrook Park School.
The school flourished in its new location and has become a highly respected learning establishment in the area. Renowned not only for its academia, but also for its sporting achievements and spectacular dramatic performances.
The success of the school coupled with the development of the area meant continued growth, with numbers peaking in 1977 at 1134 pupils (this number including the 6th Form, which was disbanded in 1989).
Pupil numbers are now steady around the 875 mark, and we are looking forward to another bumper year of examination results in this, our centenary year.
