An aspiration for many young people is to be self-employed and start their own business. The skills required for this, such as being able to work collaboratively and creatively, solve problems and have awareness of businesses and customers, are also those requested by employers.
This qualification will allow pupils to get to grips with key aspects of running small businesses with a focus on enterprise and marketing.
At Key Stage 4 pupils have the opportunity to study the Cambridge Nationals Enterprise & Marketing qualification. The qualification is designed to be both practical and theory based to prepare pupils for a future in enterprise, marketing or business.
Pupils study three mandatory topics – enterprise and marketing concepts, design of a business proposal, and marketing and pitching of the business proposal.
Through this qualification pupils will learn about the concepts of enterprise and marketing and how these support not only businesses, but would support anyone setting up their own business.
Customer profiling, market research and financial calculations are also covered to ensure that pupils are able to develop pricing strategies and ascertain if the product design idea they have suggested is a viable proposal.
Skills such as brand identity, promotion and pitching are developed in the final topic with pupils developing a pitch which will be given to an external audience.
